The horsepower goal you created in step 1 is going to drive your connecting rod decision as well, Higher horsepower builds call for stronger rods that use more material. (You can usually determine which rods are high horsepower rods because they are heavier, while rods for all-motor builds are usually lighter...use the weightcolumn in the table below.

However we are going to introduce a new question.

  • Do you plan on revving the engine high? or keeping a near-stock rev limit?

The higher you rev the engine the more times the rod switches between "push" and "pull" per second, and the more necessary upgraded rod bolts become. Higher revving engines should be getting rods with upgraded rod bolts.
